Sky-High Metal Stamping Scrap Removal
Here’s Martin Supply’s ingenious solution for metal stamping environmentally-sensitive parts. Scrap removal was the final, labor-intensive hitch for the end-user’s operators.
First, robots had been installed on the plant floor’s mezzanine, to stamp parts in isolation from airborne particulates emitted on the plant floor. To get rid of the scrap material, Mini-Mover conveyors were part of the solution.
After stamping on the mezzanine, the scrap pieces could go anywhere — so why not down to the plant floor, for easy collection and removal by general staff?
Martin Supply set up a small chute for the scrap to drop from the robots onto the first conveyor (mounted underneath the mezzanine floor). Then the scrap transfers across the floor, to a second Mini-Mover conveyor pointed over the scrap collection cage below. A long chute installed from this second “drop-off” conveyor to the cage ensures all scrap material is delivered on-target.
Everything is controlled by PLC automation — the conveyors and the collection-cage sensors. When the collection bucket is full, an alarm indicator mounted on the cage lights up to alert staff. #PLCAutomation #Automation #AutomationConveyors #MiniMoverConveyors
